Had a customer in Denver yell at me for using Shimano grease on his BB instead of Phil Wood last Tuesday...
I've always used whatever grease is on the bench and never had a complaint, but that one guy made me wonder if I'm cutting corners versus saving people money, which side do you fall on in that debate?

Three weeks ago I saw a guy throw a fit at our shop over Mobil 1 vs. Shimano grease on his XT hub. Like dude, it's a $30 part on a 10 year old bike, not a spaceship. I get that Phil Wood is nice but 99% of riders can't tell the difference and the other 1% are just flexing. People act like grease is some holy water that'll make or break their ride, but most of the time it's just about keeping dirt out and things moving. Unless you're racing or riding in extreme conditions, whatever's on the bench is probably fine.

Had a guy scream at me once because I used Park Tool grease on his Chris King headset. Told me I just "ruined the bearing feel." Dude it's a headset. You ride a gravel bike to a coffee shop every Saturday. Relax. These people act like they're mechanics for Red Bull's downhill team. News flash. You're not. Your hubs won't explode if you use the cheap stuff. Just ride the damn bike and stop pretending you're in a pro pit.
