Update: started charging a deposit on big orders after a guy in Buffalo told me one thing
Used to eat the cost every time a custom order got cancelled halfway through, ate about $2,100 in materials over 8 months doing that. Started asking for 50% up front after a shop owner in Buffalo told me he had not lost a single order over it, and he was right. Anyone else change how they take payment and have it backfire or work out?
How did you finally land on 50% and not something like 30? I feel you on eating those material costs, that stuff adds up fast and it stings worse when you already put hours in. Good to hear it worked out and that Buffalo guy knew what he was talking about.
