Just realized my band saw blade angle was off for weeks, lost a lot of product in Denver
Last month I noticed my rib cuts started looking ragged, not clean like normal. I kept blaming the meat or my technique, but then I measured the blade alignment on the band saw and it was off by almost 4 degrees. That happened after I bumped the machine moving a cart of beef hindquarters 3 weeks ago. Probably wasted close to 60 pounds of prime rib that got trimmed into stew meat because of it. I've since marked the adjustment bolts with white paint so I can verify the angle at a glance before each shift. Has anyone else had a small shop mishap turn into a hidden product loss like this, or am I just too hard on my equipment?
White paint on the bolts is smart, I started doing that after my own 3 degree drift cost me about 40 pounds of pork loin. Check your guide bearings too while you're at it, those can shift when you move the machine and mess up the cut just as bad. Live and learn, right?
