Snapped a 60 year old shutter spring on a Rolleiflex last week
Was cleaning the taking lens on a 2.8C and a tiny spring flew off when I lifted the shutter plate. Took me 4 hours with a magnet and tweezers to find it in my garage carpet. Anyone else have a spring launch into the void and somehow get lucky finding it?

Man I've been there. Had a small spring from a Nikkor lens disappear into the abyss of my living room rug last year. Ended up finding it three months later stuck to my sock. Funny thing is I already ordered a replacement by then but it still felt like a small victory. @ryan_hart38 is right about walking away though. The more you hunt the further it seems to hide. Sometimes you just gotta let the carpet gods have their fun and wait for them to give it back.

Put that thing down and walk away for an hour. I've lost more springs and screws than I care to count, but pawing around with a magnet on garage carpet only guarantees you'll lose something else in the process. Last time I did this I ended up dragging the vacuum over the area and found the part stuck to the brush head two days later. The universe has a sick sense of humor about tiny camera parts, so sometimes the best move is to just leave it alone and let it turn up on its own.
