Vent: I was ready to junk a Canon AE-1 with a stuck shutter, but a drop of lighter fluid saved it
The shutter was completely frozen, and I couldn't get the curtain to budge after trying the usual cleaning. I was about to pull the whole mechanism for a full rebuild, which would have taken hours. On a whim, I put one tiny drop of Ronsonol on the edge of the first curtain gear shaft, let it sit for ten minutes, and it slowly started to move. Has anyone else had luck with this on old cloth shutters, or is it a bad idea long term?

Lighter fluid on a camera" does sound pretty crazy, but if it works, it works.
