Dropped $340 on a down quilt for 20 degree nights and I still froze in the Smokies
Everyone in the forums swears a quilt beats a sleeping bag, so I bought a 20 degree quilt for $340 and took it to the Smokies in November. The pad straps kept slipping off my pad and cold air poured in around my shoulders all night, around 2am I was curled up shivering at 28 degrees. My buddy had a cheap $90 synthetic bag from Walmart and slept fine while I was up boiling water at 5am. A quilt only works if you dial in the straps and pad, and most reviews never mention that part. Anyone else get burned by the quilt hype or did I just set mine up wrong?
