Got caught in a surprise downpour on the Lost Coast Trail and it made me rethink my rain gear
I was about 8 miles into a three day hike in northern California when the sky just opened up. My old rain jacket wetted out in maybe 20 minutes, and my pack's cover leaked at the seams. I mean, I was soaked through and pretty miserable setting up my tent in the mud. Has anyone else had a jacket fail that badly and found something that actually holds up?

Maybe you just got a bad batch? My cheap jacket from years ago still works fine.

Ever heard of planned obsolescence?

Yeah, that exact thing happened to me on the Olympic Peninsula. Switched to a jacket with taped seams and a heavier-duty fabric, like a 3-layer Gore-Tex. It's a bit noisier but stayed bone dry through a whole weekend of sideways rain.
