My old tent finally gave out on a rainy night in the Smokies

I've had the same two-person dome tent for about 12 years, and it's been through a lot. Last week, I was camping near Gatlinburg and a real downpour hit around midnight. I woke up to a steady drip on my sleeping bag, and by morning, the floor was damp in three spots. The seam sealant is completely gone, and I think the fabric is just too worn to patch. I need something reliable for weekend trips, preferably under $200. Has anyone had a tent last longer than a decade, or is that just asking for trouble?

Ever tried a tube of seam grip? It's a solid fix for worn-out sealant, and @the_felix is right that a little drip beats a wet canvas doghouse any day.

Remember when tents were basically just fancy tarps? My dad had this ancient canvas thing that smelled like wet dog and needed a whole afternoon to set up. We'd get caught in rain and he'd just shrug and say the real problem was finding dry wood for a fire. Makes a little drip in a modern tent seem like a luxury problem.

Ever had a tent fail on a first date?

Read somewhere that modern tent fabrics just degrade after ten years.
