My stove mishap taught me to read gear reviews

My stove caught fire during a night cook. We were in a remote spot with no cell service. It took a while to put out the flames. Now I always check reviews for safety issues. It changed how I pick camping gear.

Wait, your stove caught fire while you were cooking at night? That's so scary, and with no phone service around. How long did it take to put out? I'd be checking every single review after that too.

A fire extinguisher under the sink did the trick for me. Why don't more people keep one handy?

Seriously... reviews are just people complaining online. Most gear works fine if you don't do something dumb with it. You probably just got a weird one.

Nothing like a surprise bonfire to make you rethink your life choices, huh? @the_abby is right, that sounds terrifying with no way to call for help. I bet you were checking those reviews like your life depended on it, because well, it kinda did. Now I'm over here side-eyeing my own camping stove, wondering if it's plotting against me. It's crazy how one bad experience can turn you into a full-time safety inspector for every piece of gear you own. Guess some lessons come with extra flames.
