The $200 tent pad I finally stopped carrying

After 8 years of lugging a foam mat for extra insulation, I realized my sleeping bag and a handful of pine needles did the same job on a frozen ground last November near Lake Placid. Now I just scout for softer ground and save the pack weight. Anyone else ditch a fancy ground pad for simple site selection?

Ngl, I burned mine after one frozen night in the Adirondacks taught me the same trick.
