Picked a fixed retainer over agency commission for my Seattle marketing gig
Had to choose between a $2k monthly retainer or a 15% agency commission on ad spend, and I went with the retainer because it felt steadier. Three months in and the client's budget keeps shrinking, so that retainer is looking a lot better now - has anyone else dealt with clients who keep pulling back their spend?

A buddy of mine took an agency commission deal on a $10k ad spend last year and it worked great until the client cut it to $2k. I used to think commission was the way to go because it scales up, but watching your situation play out changed my mind. That $2k retainer is a floor you can count on no matter what they do with their budget. Have you thought about adding a clause that locks in a minimum spend if you switch back?
