Spent 3 weeks hunting for a new job by only clicking Easy Apply, got 2 callbacks out of 90 apps
So here is the thing I keep seeing people do wrong. My buddy Dave in Sacramento spent almost a month blasting out resumes through the Easy Apply button on LinkedIn and Indeed, sometimes 15 apps in one night while watching TV. He got two phone screens total out of around 90 applications, and one of them was for a job selling insurance to his own family. I finally asked him to show me one of his applications, and the entire thing was the same resume with no cover letter and no edits. The job posting literally said experience with Salesforce, and his resume never had the word Salesforce on it once. Two weeks ago he picked 6 jobs he actually wanted, rewrote a couple bullet points in each resume to mirror the words in the listing, and sent a short note to the hiring manager on LinkedIn. He got 4 replies and 3 interviews. The listings are basically a keyword filter, and he was writing his resume for humans while a robot was reading it first. Has anyone else noticed that the more apps you send, the worse your results get, or is it just that the spray and pray thing only works in certain fields?
Quality beats quantity every single time with this stuff. The robot reads your resume before a human ever does, so if the keywords from the listing aren't in there, you're basically invisible. Your buddy figured it out the hard way but at least he got there.
