The interview panel told me they 'went with someone who was a better fit' after I did three rounds

Spent two weeks prepping for this job at a tech company in Austin, even did a take-home project that took me 15 hours. Got the call yesterday afternoon. The hiring manager said my work was great, but they picked someone else who 'aligned more with their culture'. I'm just so tired of hearing that... it feels like a way to say no without a real reason. Has anyone else gotten this line and figured out what it actually means?

For me, that line usually meant they had an internal candidate. I started asking for real feedback and it helped.

Read an article once that called that line the "corporate ghosting script." It said to ask for specific feedback on one skill, like presentation style, not just general notes. Makes it harder for them to brush you off with the canned reply. Solid point from @susan_allen about it often meaning they already had someone in mind.

Wait, they actually call it a corporate ghosting script?
