Watching my dad fix stuff around the house clicked for my job problems

I was stuck on a big project at work and felt lost. My dad was repairing our fence, taking it one piece at a time. He didn't rush, just focused on each step until it was done. I started doing that with my work tasks, tackling them bit by bit. Now I get through my list without freaking out.

Honestly, that's the whole trick right there. Tbh I used to be the same, trying to do everything at once and just burning out. Seeing someone just focus on the one thing in front of them makes it seem possible. It sounds simple but it's a game changer for real.

Wait, your dad just fixed the fence without rushing? That's the wildest part to me. Honestly, I could never have that kind of patience, I'd be trying to slam the whole thing done in an hour. Tbh, it's kinda amazing that just watching someone work slow and steady actually fixed your work stress. I get so wound up trying to do everything at once that I just freeze. Seeing that it's okay to just do one thing, then the next, is a real mind shift. Ngl, I'm shocked it's that simple.

Yeah that fence thing hits home. What helped me was setting a timer for one hour and telling myself I only have to work on one small piece of the problem until it beeps. No thinking about the whole mess. Usually after that hour I've got enough momentum to just keep going.

I read something similar about using timers (like @blakepark said) to build momentum on big tasks.
