Old timer told me to sharpen my chisels with water, not oil. He was right and I wasted a year
Been using oil stones since I started, and this retired finish carpenter in Tacoma finally made me try water stones last month after I complained about tear-out. Night and day difference on my walnut rails, the edge holds twice as long, but I'm wondering if any of you guys run into problems with rust on your tools switching over?

That old timer knew what he was talking about, for sure. I switched over years ago and never looked back, but rust is a real concern if you leave your tools sitting wet. Just keep a rag with a little oil nearby and wipe the blade down after you dry it off, that stops the rust without getting in the way of the water stone's work.
