Warning: sending a follow up invoice 30 days out instead of 7 saved my whole project
I used to wait a month before nudging a quiet client, and one dude in Austin went silent for 3 weeks until I tried a "just checking in" note on day 7, which got me paid in 2 days. Has anyone else found that earlier follow ups actually keep people from vanishing, or does it just annoy them?
Are you sure the 7 day thing didn't just work because that client was already about to pay? I do billing for a small shop and we tried the 7 day nudge for a few months. What happened was folks who were just slow started getting annoyed, like we didn't trust them, and a couple of them pushed us to the bottom of the pile out of spite. Our best payers are the ones sitting on net 30 and they pay on day 30 every time, a day 7 email does nothing for them. The fix for us was day 14, short and plain, no "just checking in" fluff.
