A guy in Cincinnati asked me to cut his site's ad load in half but keep his ad cash the same, and I still don't know if he was joking
Met him at a coffee shop on Vine St. about 5 months back to talk through a redesign. He wanted the same $4,200 a month from ads but half the ad slots, and when I said that math doesn't work he told me his nephew could get it done in Google Sites for free. I spent 3 weeks on a proposal before he ghosted me and then asked if I could just do the free version anyway. Did I dodge a bullet here or should I have tried harder to keep him?
The part nobody's talking about is what happens after you say yes to these guys. You cut the ads in half, he tells all his buddies you did it, and now you're the person who "figures out how to make it work." Next thing you know three more Cincinnati business owners want the same magic trick. Ask me how the nephew thing plays out too. Google Sites kid throws up a page with AdSense slapped on, makes like $60 the first month, and suddenly you're the one getting the 11pm calls to fix it. The ghosting was the best thing he ever did for you.
