The client who wanted me to fix their HVAC with a YouTube tutorial
I got a call from a lady in Phoenix last July who said her AC unit was making a grinding noise. She refused to let me come out because she found a 10 minute video online that showed her how to replace the fan motor herself. I told her it's not that simple, but she insists I just talk her through it over the phone. After 45 minutes of her yelling about a stuck bolt and a stripped screw, she finally agreed to pay my $150 service call fee. Now I always ask upfront if they've watched any videos before I give a quote. Has anyone else had a customer try to DIY a repair after watching a tutorial?

Phoenix heat and a stuck bolt is a bad combo, isn't it.

You ever try telling them you'll knock a little off the service call if they let you handle it from the start? I started offering a small discount for folks who just call me first, and it's cut down on these situations a lot.
