Found out a client was using my work without paying by checking their social media

I do freelance graphic design and had a client ghost me after I sent the final logo files. They owed me $450. I figured I'd just write it off as a loss, but yesterday I was scrolling and saw an ad from their new business page. They were using my logo, the exact one I made. I checked the date they posted it, and it was two days after I sent the invoice. They never paid a cent and just started using it. I sent a really firm email with a screenshot and a link to the copyright laws in our state, but I'm so mad I spent hours on that project. Has anyone else had a client just steal your work like that? What did you do next?

Seeing that ad must have felt like a real gut punch. I had a cousin who had a guy just take a whole set of family photos she took and print Christmas cards. It got messy with lawyers. Did you put any kind of watermark on the files you sent?

Ugh, that's so infuriating. Good on you for sending that email, I hope they pay up fast.

My buddy waited six months for a similar payment.
