Unpopular opinion: flexible deadlines are worse than strict ones

I used to think giving clients a 2 week buffer was smart but after one guy pushed back 4 times on a logo project over 3 months I changed my tune. Now I put hard dates in the contract with a 10% late fee and it weeds out the time wasters fast. Anyone else find that giving an inch makes them take a mile?

Nah, late fees just make lazy clients actually respect your time though.

Doesn't the late fee just piss them off even more though?

Oh man, that's such a good point. I mean, are they really gonna pay the late fee and then happily hand over the keys? It just makes people feel more stuck and angry, which is the opposite of what you want when you're trying to get your place back. Doesn't it just turn a simple payment problem into a personal war? Like, at that point aren't they more likely to just stop paying altogether or mess with the place before they leave?
