Hot take: a messy car at the estimate is NOT a red flag
I keep seeing folks on here say to walk away when a client's car is full of trash or their house looks rough when you show up to give a quote, and I think that advice is backwards. I do house cleaning in Dayton and the two worst clients I ever had both lived in spotless, staged homes with matching towels and candles everywhere. One of them, a $4,200 job over 3 visits, kept "finding" dust on top of her fridge and shorted me $300 at the end. Meanwhile the guy with dog hair on every chair and dishes in the sink has handed me cash on the spot for 2 years running. Messy usually means they are busy and they care about the work, not the show. Anyone else notice the spotless ones turn out to be the pickiest about paying?
You ever notice how the people with the fanciest everything are usually the ones haggling over pennies? Same deal with wedding clients and even landlords, if the place looks like a magazine cover they want a magazine cover price. The ones living in real life just want the job done right and pay you for it.
