My neighbor told me I was overwatering my garden, turns out he was right about everything

He saw me watering every morning and said I was drowning my tomatoes... three days later they all turned yellow and dropped off. Has anyone else gotten stubborn about bad advice from an expert and paid the price?

Three days later they all turned yellow and dropped off" - that's a rough lesson. I used to think watering every day was being a good plant parent, but after killing a whole batch of basil the same way I finally listened to my older neighbor.

You'd think with all that water they'd thrive, wouldn't you? But it's the opposite for basil and a lot of herbs. The roots end up sitting in wet soil and they just rot away. I've had better luck letting them dry out completely between waterings, almost to the point where they look a little sad. Then a good drink perks them right back up. It's a delicate balance for sure.

Yeah that tracks @juliaa65 but basil actually needs way more water than that once it gets big.

Right, because clearly the best way to prove someone wrong is by drowning your tomatoes until they wave a little white flag. 😂 Three days. My condolences to your yellow-leafed victims. I did the same thing with my basil, gave it the "loving" daily soak, and it turned into a sad, mushy puddle of regret. Sometimes being stubborn about an expert's advice is just the quickest way to learn the hard way, lol.
