My neighborhood composting program cut our trash output by half in 6 months

I signed up for a city run composting pickup back in March. Before that my household was filling up a 96 gallon bin every single week without fail. After 6 months of composting food scraps and yard waste we went down to a 32 gallon bin every two weeks. The city gave us a free countertop bucket and a larger outdoor bin to make it easy. Has anyone else seen a similar drop in trash volume from composting?

Wait, didn't your trash pile up with compost smells before pickup day? My bin got gross quick - had to rinse it weekly to keep bugs away. Still worth it though, less trips to the curb and way less waste.

Honestly, reminds me of when my neighbor tried that whole "mulching lawn clippings" thing and his yard looked like a hayfield for a month. Tbh, the grass just kept growing faster somehow.
