My recycling bin was a lie for 3 years until a landfill tour in Fresno

I sorted everything, rinsed every jar, checked the numbers on the bottom. Then a worker at the dump pointed at a bale of mixed plastics and said, 'That all goes to storage, nothing buys it.' Now I'm questioning if my whole routine helps or just makes me feel good. Who else has checked what their city actually processes?

Man that hits hard. Finding out the whole thing was basically a performance for our own guilt is such a gut punch.
