My street's composting bins were never collected and now they're gone
I disagree that city led composting always works. They never set up a pickup plan, so all the bins just rotted and got dumped. It didn't reduce waste at all.

My city in Phoenix ran a pilot program that cut landfill waste by almost 20%. It really depended on consistent pickup schedules they actually followed.

Public transit could learn from this too.

Seriously? @campbell.ryan, what specific part should transit copy? Is it just the reliable schedule, like Phoenix's pickups? My bus is never on time, which makes planning impossible. If the trash guys can hit a window, why can't the 3:15 bus? Are we just bad at running simple services?

Remember the people part. Someone has to want to do the pickup job right, not just follow a plan on paper. If the crew hates the new compost route, they'll find a way to ditch it.
