Hit 10,000 hours on my old Haas last Tuesday and it kinda threw me off

I was just checking the machine log after a run of about 50 parts for a local shop in Denver that does medical stuff. The counter rolled over to 10,000 hours on the spindle and I had to stop and think for a second. That machine came to our floor back in 2012, I was still learning G-code from a beat up manual. It's got dents and coolant stains all over the door, I replaced the way wipers twice and the tool changer acts up every winter when it gets cold. But it just keeps going, you know? I honestly didn't expect to be running the same machine for that long. Has anyone else here had a machine hit some crazy hour count that surprised you?

The thing about hitting that many hours is it makes you realize how much you've actually run that machine. I bet it's seen more actual cutting time than some guys do in their whole careers, lol. But the wild part to me is thinking about all the parts that came off it, where they ended up. Like some of that 10k hours probably went into medical implants or aerospace stuff that's still out there doing its job. That's kinda cool when you stop to think about it, even if the machine looks like it got dragged behind a truck.

All the parts that came off it" got me thinking. Had a buddy who found out his machine was making parts for a satellite launch after he'd been running it for years, stuck a little sticker on the control panel afterward. He still talks about it every time someone mentions their machine's hours.

Man that sticker thing is honestly kind of wholesome. Ngl it's wild to think your daily grind could end up floating in space without you even knowing. Tbh that's the kind of legacy most people never get to see.
