The flat bar I swore was square threw my whole morning off

Last Tuesday I set up a job with a piece of 1.5 inch flat bar that looked perfect on the shelf. Turned out it was twisted 2 degrees from a bad cutoff, and my first three parts came out .008 off in the Y axis. I only caught it because I double checked with the indicator instead of trusting the vise. Has anyone else had a piece of stock hide a flaw that looked totally fine from the outside?

Three years in and I still trust the indicator over the shelf every time now.
