I changed how I name my files after one bad feedback session

Someone on here told me naming files 'final_v3' was just asking for trouble, and they were right. I switched to a date+project system and it saved me from sending the wrong version to a client last week. Has anyone else had a simple naming habit totally mess up their workflow?

At least you didn't name it 'actually_final_v2_final'.

Got a buddy who once spent an entire weekend re-editing a video for a client. He was so proud of 'project_xyz_FINAL.mov.' Turns out, he accidentally sent them 'project_xyz_DRAFT.mov' by mistake. The draft was all rough cuts and half-finished color grading, missing like 30 percent of the b-roll. Client was... not thrilled. He learned that lesson the hard way, same as you.

Three different file names for the same damn thing sitting on my desktop right now - "taxes_2024_v1," "taxes_2024_v2_actual," and "taxes_2024_FINAL_no_really." It's like we've all agreed to just lie to ourselves with these labels. Every single person does this with something, whether it's a project file, a grocery list, or even naming a saved game on an old console. We'll carefully call something "THE_last_one" and then make two more versions that are supposedly the real last one. Your buddy's story is just a high-stakes version of what we all do every time we hit "save as.
