Had to pick between a burr grinder and a blade grinder for my morning routine

I spent like two weeks going back and forth on whether to drop $60 on a cheap burr grinder or just keep using my roommate's blade grinder from 2019. Finally caved and got the burr one after reading some dude on here say it changed his whole morning vibe. Has anyone else felt like the grind consistency actually made a difference in taste or is it just placebo?

the "bitter and sour at the same time" thing you said really hit home for me. I had the same problem with my blade grinder and just accepted it as part of making coffee. Thought I was doing something wrong with my water temp or timing. But nope, it was literally the grinder making a mess of things. I've been using my burr one for about a month now and my morning coffee actually tastes like what I imagined good coffee should taste like. Not bitter, not sour, just smooth and drinkable. It's kind of wild how much of a difference it makes when you think it's all just hype.

That thing you read about "changed his whole morning vibe" is the exact same post that pushed me over the edge lol. I was using a blade grinder for like 3 years and thought I was getting good enough results. But once I switched to a burr grinder I could actually taste the difference in my pour overs. The big thing for me was that my coffee stopped being bitter and sour at the same time, which was happening all the time with the blade one. I read somewhere that blade grinders crush the beans unevenly, so you get a mix of big chunks and super fine dust, and that dust over extracts while the big pieces under extract. Now mornings feel less like a chore and more like a ritual, even if that sounds dumb.

That changed my morning up too, now I actually look forward to grinding instead of dreading it.
