My cheap hand grinder finally gave me a good cup

I've had this basic ceramic burr grinder for about two years, mostly using it for my camping trips. Yesterday I ran out of my usual pre-ground stuff and decided to use it at home with some fresh beans from a shop in Portland. The grind was way more even than I expected, and the coffee tasted brighter, almost like I could taste the fruit notes they mentioned on the bag. I guess I never gave the little grinder a real chance with good beans. Has anyone else been surprised by a piece of gear they thought was just okay?

Honestly, it's just coffee! A decent bean will taste good even with a basic grind. People get way too deep about this stuff sometimes.

Remember my buddy who swore by his cheap blade grinder? He tried my decent burr grinder once and his exact words were "oh, this is what people are talking about." A good grind just unlocks more from the bean.

Watch people fight over grinders like it's a holy war. I mean, it's still just ground up beans in hot water at the end of the day. Maybe we all just need to drink our coffee and chill.
