So I overheard a barista saying dark roasts have MORE caffeine - is that even true?
I was waiting for my pour-over at a shop on 3rd Street and this barista told a customer dark roasts pack more punch. I thought lighter roasts kept more caffeine because the beans aren't cooked as long. Which side is right and why?

Yeah, isn't it wild how baristas believe that even the roasting companies say light roasts have more caffeine?

Roasting companies say dark roasts actually have slightly less caffeine by volume...

Oh come on, that's just what the big roasting companies want you to believe to sell more of their expensive light roasts. Dark roasts have been roasted longer so they're denser and pack more actual coffee particles into the same scoop, which means more caffeine by volume every time.
