Hot take: My brother thinks our shared comic library should be sorted by character, not publisher.

I say grouping by publisher makes it easier to follow universe events, but he wants it by hero for quick grabs. Which way works better for your family reads?

Found sorting by publisher saved me so much hassle during crossovers too.

Totally get your point about publisher sorting for universe events. I tried the character method once and it was a mess during big crossovers like Marvel's Secret Wars. Had to dig through Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern boxes just to follow one DC Crisis story. Now my long boxes are all Marvel, DC, and indie splits. Saves so much time when you want to read a whole event in order.

But see that's where the character method actually works better for me. When I read Civil War, I wanted all the Iron Man issues together to follow his full arc, not jump between Marvel boxes looking for tie-ins. Having them split by publisher means you're still digging, just through different boxes. My Spider-Man shelf has every appearance in order, events included, so the character's journey never gets broken up.
