Just realized how many people at my local shop only read the big two
I was picking up my pull list at Comics Plus in Springfield and heard a group talking about their weekly buys. Every single book they mentioned was from Marvel or DC, nothing else. It made me think about how many fans stick to just those publishers and miss out on so much. I asked one guy if he ever tried something like 'Saga' or 'Something is Killing the Children' and he just shrugged. Do you think comic shops could do more to push the smaller titles?

That's such a common scene, honestly. My shop has a whole wall for indie stuff, but I still see the same thing. Heard a podcast where a store owner said they try to just put a single issue of something like "Department of Truth" into a regular's pull box as a freebie. Sometimes that's all it takes to get someone hooked on a new world. Shops have to walk a fine line between suggesting things and not being pushy, you know? It's tough when people just want their familiar superhero fix every Wednesday.

Yeah, that freebie trick is smart. I read an article once that called it "seeding the box," and it really does seem to work.

Wait, isn't it called "seeding the box" when they put the free book in your pull list? The article I read said the freebie rack by the door is something else...
