Just realized my $350 slabbed comic purchase was a total waste

Back in 2010, I bought a graded copy of a minor X-Men issue for about $350, convinced it was a future classic. The market for that specific book just never materialized, and now it's worth maybe half what I paid. I see newer fans chasing similar graded books today and it reminds me of my own mistake. The money could have gone towards a full run of something I actually loved reading. Has anyone else bought a slabbed book that just sits there losing value?

Oof, that "future classic" feeling is such a trap. I've been there. My advice now is to only slab books you personally love, not ones you're just betting on.

Laura_wilson's "only slab books you personally love" sounds nice but misses the point for some collectors. It's a hobby, not a life philosophy. People can enjoy the speculation side without it being a trap if they don't take it too seriously. Let folks have fun chasing a future classic if that's what they're into.

See where you're coming from, but I actually agree with ninar68 on this one. The hunt for a future classic is a huge part of the fun for a lot of us. It's like a game, trying to spot something before it blows up. As long as you're not spending money you need for bills, what's the harm in a little speculation? It adds another layer to the hobby.
