My dive supervisor in Louisiana was right about weights

Tbh, my old supervisor in Lafayette kept telling me to check my weight belt before every single dive, even if I was just doing a quick hull inspection. I skipped it twice last month on a job near the rigs and paid for it with a nasty struggle to stay level at 60 feet. Has anyone else ignored that advice and regretted it mid-dive?

Man, I get it, but also dont blame the belt entirely. If you were fighting to stay level at 60 feet, that might be more about your breathing and trim than just the weight. A few pounds off makes a difference, sure, but struggling that hard usually means your tank setup or buoyancy control is off too. I used to skip checks all the time and only got in trouble when I switched gear without rechecking. Honestly, the real lesson is to check your rig, not just the belt, because weights are only half the battle.
