Shoutout to the guy in Morgan City who made me check my bailout bottle before every dive
Two years back a diver named Ray pulled me aside on the dock in Morgan City and asked when I last checked the air in my bailout. I said it was fine at the shop, and he made me crack the valve right there. The gauge read 1,800 psi on a bottle that sat in my truck for 3 months. Now every diver on my crew checks their own bottle at the rail before we splash, no exceptions. Anyone else had a close call with gear that sat too long between jobs?
Nothing like a bottle that's been napping in a hot truck for 3 months to keep things interesting. Ray probably saved you a real bad day, and now your whole crew checks at the rail, which is honestly the cheapest safety upgrade there is. Funny how one guy being a little pushy on a dock changes how everybody dives.
