Switched from a full face mask to a band mask on a 60 foot job in Galveston and it was night and day
Did a pier inspection off Galveston last week and the dive sup put me in a band mask for the first time in about 4 years. My old full face felt like wearing a bucket compared to this thing, way less drag in the current and I could actually turn my head to check my gauges without fighting it. Took me about 10 minutes to stop reaching up to clear it out of habit. My comms were clearer too, no muffled underwater sound like I usually get. Anyone here made the switch and stuck with it, or do you go back and forth depending on the job?
That bit about reaching up to clear it out of habit made me laugh, because I did the same thing when we switched from hard hats to bump caps on a bridge job years back. Muscle memory is a funny thing, your hand just goes where it always went even when there is nothing there to fix. Give it a few more dives and the old habit fades on its own.
