Vent: My old dive helmet's comms were static for years, then a buddy in Seattle showed me a fix.
I was using the same Kirby Morgan 37 for about five years and the audio was always garbled, especially below 60 feet. He had me check the mic seal and replace the little foam windscreen inside, which was totally packed with salt crud. Has anyone else found a simple part that made a huge difference in comms clarity?

Oh man, "talking through a towel" is exactly how I'd describe my old 37 before I swapped that stupid foam piece. I let mine go for like three years thinking the whole intercom system was shot, chasing wiring gremlins for nothing. Finally a guy in the Keys just laughed, pulled the mic cover off, and that little foam disc fell out in crumbly pieces. Stuck a new one in and suddenly my dive buddies could hear me clear as day at 100 feet. It's wild how something that small and cheap can make you want to throw your whole helmet in the ocean.

Ever think those little foam bits were just for surface noise? I always blamed my unit's old wiring for the crackle. Swapping that tiny windscreen made my old 17B sound brand new, like I'd been talking through a towel for years.
