Just found out how many people still think restarting a computer is a myth
I was helping my aunt with her laptop yesterday, and she insisted on just closing programs instead of restarting. I showed her the uptime in Task Manager, it was 17 days. She said, "But the screen goes black, that's the same thing." I had to explain the whole kernel reload process. Has anyone else had to prove that a restart actually does something?

It's a whole OS reload, not just the screen.

My old laptop did that exact thing last year. The full reboot took almost eight minutes every single time. Felt like watching paint dry on a bad internet connection.

Honestly, I was the same way for years. But seeing the actual uptime like that, and what @caseywalker said about the whole OS reloading, it finally clicked for me.
