Tried testing a 9/11 controlled demolition theory in my own backyard
I saw a video claiming you can tell a controlled demolition by the way dust clouds expand, so I set up a small model with birdseed and a firecracker. The dust plume blew straight up like the towers did in the footage, not sideways like a normal collapse. I learned that gravity alone doesn't explain those symmetrical patterns in the videos. Has anyone else done a small test like this and gotten a result that surprised you?

Gravity is just one piece of the whole picture. What most people don't realize is how much energy it takes to get a dust cloud to expand outward at the base of a collapse when the building is falling straight down. In your test the firecracker gave a direct kick to the birdseed that pushed it outward and upward at the same time, which matches the controlled demolition signature. Real collapses from things like earthquakes or controlled implosions of other structures don't produce that same symmetrical mushrooming effect because the force isn't coming from the center of the building. The twin towers also had those weird squibs popping out of the sides before the dust even started which is another red flag. You should try it again with a heavier base and see if the pattern changes because the physics is pretty telling once you start paying attention.

Drove past a job site once where a buddy of mine was doing demo on an old warehouse and @angela728, what you're describing about the dust cloud behavior is exactly what he said looked off about the towers compared to that normal collapse.

Yeah the "heavy base" thing you mentioned reminds me of this time I was watching a gravel truck unload at a construction site near my place. The stuff just kind of slumped down in a pile like you'd expect. But then a few days later they were doing some blasting work nearby and the dust from that shot outward real fast before settling. Totally different movement to look at. Your birdseed test sounds like it might be onto something with how that energy gets directed.
