Appreciation post: My freelance contract just hit 20 pages for the first time

It's for a simple website job, but the indemnity section has three full pages of dense legalese. Has anyone else had to push back on a clause that basically makes you liable for everything, even stuff the client does?

Always push back on that. Get a lawyer to help you rewrite it.

My last lease tried to sneak in a clause about "routine maintenance fees" that could be up to $200 a month. I circled it, wrote "hell no" next to it, and my lawyer swapped it for the landlord covering anything under $500. Saved me a couple grand last year alone.

That "hell no" approach is key. You see it everywhere now, from phone bills to gym memberships, where they just hope you won't read the fine print.

Honestly I used to just sign stuff, but a bad clause cost me big once.
