A plumber in Denver told me my venting was totally backwards

I was roughing in a bathroom in a split level and had the vent tie into the main stack about 6 feet below the fixture. Old timer named Ray walks over, takes one look, and says 'you're gonna suck that trap dry every time a toilet flushes upstairs.' He showed me how to run it up above the flood level rim first. I redid the whole thing that afternoon and it tested perfect. How do you guys handle vents when you have limited attic space?

That 'gonna suck that trap dry' line hits SO close to home. I had a similar old timer tell me my vent was 'backwards' once, and I honestly thought he was messing with me. Turns out he was 100 percent right. I swear these old plumbers have some kind of sixth sense for venting disasters. They can just LOOK at a pipe and know it's wrong. I've started just taking their advice without question now, even if it sounds crazy. Saves me a LOT of rework.

Yeah Robin they definitely have that sixth sense stuff nailed down from decades of fixing other peoples screw ups.
