Is a 3/8 impact really enough for deck framing, or am I just slow?
Been hearing this from two camps on a job in Austin last week. My partner swears a 3/8 impact with good batteries drives every lag screw for a 12 foot deck, no problem. I keep dragging out my 1/2 inch drill for the same work because I hate stripping heads or bogging down. He finished his side in 4 hours, I took 6. But I also checked his joints and two were barely seated. So which is it: are we overthinking the tool size or are people just rushing the final torque? Who else has seen this go wrong on a real build?
