That painter who told me to never use blue tape on fresh paint
I was working a trim job in a house over near Oakridge last spring. The homeowner handed me a roll of blue tape and said his buddy, a painter for 30 years, swore it would pull off fresh latex clean. I tested it on a closet door, waited 4 hours, and peeled it up careful. Left a sticky residue that took me 20 minutes to scrub off with mineral spirits. Has anyone else run into tape that just doesn't live up to the hype?

Man that tape is the absolute worst for fresh paint, I learned that the hard way too. Tried some Frog Tape on a brand new coat of semi gloss on baseboards, waited a full 6 hours and still had little bits of sticky gunk all along the edge. Had to hit it with a heat gun and a plastic scraper, took forever. The regular blue stuff is fine for cured paint but anything less than a week old and you're asking for trouble.

Right? Tried the same trick on a doorframe and ended up with a sticky mess I had to scrape off for an hour.

Did you try using goo gone or just straight scraping? I did the same thing on a window frame last summer and spent a whole Saturday picking at little sticky bits with a butter knife. My wife still brings it up whenever I mention painting anything.
