Thought laser levels were a gimmick until my dad bet me $50 on a deck rail
My old man kept telling me to ditch the 4 foot level for a laser and I told him it was just a toy for guys who can't read a bubble. He put $50 on the table and said my rail posts would be off by the time I hit the 12 foot mark. I set every post with my spirit level and checked them with his cheap $89 laser, and 3 of them were out by almost a quarter inch. He never even said a word, just pointed at the laser and held his hand out. Now I run a laser on anything longer than 8 feet and it has saved me more rework than the thing cost. So what's the tool you swore was hype until somebody proved you wrong on a real job?
That "toy for guys who can't read a bubble" line got me because I said the exact same thing about laser levels. Then I helped my buddy frame his garage and he caught two of my studs out of plumb with his, and I felt like a clown. Now mine rides in the truck every single day.
