Unpopular opinion: I used to think cordless tools were just a gimmick until I saw a crew finish a whole deck framing job in a day without a single extension cord in sight.

That was in 2019, and now my whole truck is Milwaukee because I realized the time saved not tripping over cords or hunting for outlets paid for the batteries in about six months, but has anyone else found a specific job where cordless just can't keep up yet?

Watching a cordless grinder bog down trying to cut through thick steel plate all day. The battery swap dance gets old fast when the tool itself just can't pull enough juice. For that kind of heavy, constant load, I still drag out the corded beast. It just runs cooler and doesn't quit. The cordless stuff is amazing, but it still has its limits with real power-hungry jobs.

Read an article last week that basically said cordless tools hit a wall with heat management on long jobs. The writer argued that battery tech has gotten way better, but the motors in these tools still can't shed heat like a big corded motor can. So they throttle power or just overheat after a few minutes of hard use. Makes total sense why that grinder bogs down. For quick cuts they're fine, but you can't beat a steady power cord for real work.

Yeah, grinding all day is a real battery killer. I had to cut a bunch of old steel pipe last month and my cordless sawzall just gave up after a few cuts. The motor got so hot I thought it would melt. Sometimes you just need that steady wall power for the tough stuff.
