Had a serious reaction to a color remover at a salon in Tempe last week

I was doing a corrective color for a client who had box black dye, and I used a popular remover with a 20 volume developer. About 15 minutes in, her scalp started turning bright red and she said it was burning. I mean, I've seen some irritation before but this was fast. I rinsed it out immediately and applied a cool compress, which helped a lot. I think the developer strength was too high for her sensitive skin, even though the formula said it was okay. Has anyone else run into this with a specific remover brand? What's your go-to protocol now for a sensitive scalp during a color correction?

Bright red and burning" sounds rough but that's just a chemical process working. A lot of removers cause heat and redness, it's pretty normal. You rinsed it fast so it's probably not a big deal.

You said you rinsed it out immediately, but did you do a patch test beforehand?

Honestly, who even does a patch test? I used to skip them all the time until a bad reaction totally wrecked my skin for a week. Now I see why people say it's worth the extra minute.
