I mixed 20 volume into my lightener instead of 10 and a regular's scalp paid for it
Was rushing a foil set on a Saturday and grabbed the wrong bottle without looking, and she called me two hours later saying her scalp was on fire. Now I line both bottles up and point at the one I want before I squeeze anything, and I've started keeping a bottle of 10 volume taped shut in a separate drawer. Anyone else have a dumb little ritual like that to keep their hands from going on autopilot?
That bit about taping the 10 volume shut in a separate drawer is smart, I heard a colorist talk about this on a podcast once and she said the fix isn't willpower, it's making the wrong bottle annoying to grab. She kept her 10 vol in a totally different spot, like across the room in a caddy, so her arm literally couldn't drift to it on autopilot. Same idea as pointing at the bottle before you squeeze, you're building in one tiny pause where the brain has to catch up with the hands. On a busy Saturday your hands are moving way faster than your head, so anything that forces a half second of thinking is doing real work. She said she still does it years later even though she's never grabbed the wrong one since.
