Rant: Heard a foreman say 'a good operator can lift anything' and it bugged me

We were on a site in Tacoma last week and the guy was pushing to lift a load that was over the chart limit for our radius. He said a real pro could just feel it and make it work. I shut it down and told him to check the rigging, which was wrong anyway. When did ignoring the load chart become a badge of honor instead of a fast track to an accident report?

That jib snap story shows how fast ego turns into liability.

That "badge of honor" line hits hard. It's not about skill, it's pure ego. Charts and limits are there because metal fails and physics doesn't care about your feelings. Saw a jib snap on a site because a guy thought he could "feel" a side pull. Shut the whole project down for a week. Your call was the only professional one on that site.

Read a crane op's memoir. Said the same thing.
