Rigged a 90 tonner on a dock, came back next day and the whole pad had settled 6 inches

Set up on a timber pier in Galveston last Tuesday, leveled the outriggers perfect on 2 layers of 4x8 mats. We came back Wednesday morning to knock out the rest of the job and the pier deck was sitting 6 inches lower on the rear starboard side. Turns out the old piling underneath had been rotting for years and the load settled it into the mud overnight. We spent 4 hours re-spreading mats and re-leveling before we could lift a single beam. Has anyone else had a ground pad shift that much after setup, or was I just lucky enough to get the worst piling in the harbor?
